Nature Collab is a joint initiative between the Departments of Art and Entomology that recognizes the intrinsic, interconnectedness between the fields of art, design, the sciences, and mathematics and aims to foster, enhance, and facilitate the interdisciplinary study of nature. Nature Collab is home to a research and teaching collection of specimens from the natural world, scientific and mathematical model-building games, resource books, and student artwork inspired by direct engagement with nature. A dissecting microscope is available for in-house viewing and photo documentation, and select artifacts may be loaned.
In addition to housing the specimens collection, Nature Collab hosts a growing Visiting Lecture Series, serves as avid support to select K-State student clubs, and sponsors campus-wide student competitions. Building a community of nature enthusiasts, the project creates an awareness of the integral and timely importance of art, design, the sciences, and math in meeting society’s collective, future challenges.
